Attention students, class is now in session.
Hear that? that's the sound of boredom leaving the room. My month of no school work is drawing to a close. I'm actually excited to be starting up again. The semester commences on June 4th and already I have a few questions to ponder. I must pick one of three from the list below to answer in a three page research paper:
1. Will Globalization Tie the World Together or Tear it Apart?
2. Should Global Interests Be Placed Ahead of National Interests?
3. Can International Terrorism Be Contained?
Instantly #1 jumped up at me. Globalization is connecting us to others like no other time in history. Borders are mute points when it comes to economic issues but social issues are another story. Is it any coincidence that less industrialized nations are struggling to keep up with the US and other superpowers because of NAFTA and CAFTA? Americans love the relative inexpensive luxuries this country affords us but at what cost? The drive to keep wages lower and lower is not only a consequence of vast illegal immigration but also outsourcing, loss of status and power by unions, big corporations becoming the true policy makers and the disappearance of human emotions & consideration by business persons. This blog will be kept to house some of my thoughts on the three questions. Although I'm leaning towards #1 already, I'm not going to discount the other ones. This should be an interesting class. Too bad it's not offered on campus.
Sidebar-I've been chewing a huge piece of gum for almost an hour. At this point it is entirely too hard to keep chewing but don't have a nearby trash can to dispose of it nor do I have any paper to wrap it up in. I thought of swallowing it but alas 'tis too large and I don't want it caught in my throat. Shit, I've even thought of sticking it under this desk but how ghetto can you get? My teeth hurt from chewing it. Is that normal...??
